Materials

Repair and renew constantly demand both inspiration and materials. This is a photo of my haul from a small shop in Philadelphia, Wild Hand.

Indigo dye is always experimental and hard to control. The depth of the color is determined by the number of dips in the vat. Each dip builds on the last. I use Shibori techniques as well as dip dyeing.

Shibori

The technique of binding or wrapping fabric before dyeing is known as Shibori. The tightness and number of restraints used determine the contrast between light and dark areas, as well as which parts of the fabric remain undyed.
